Just adopt https://cheeaun.github.io/hackerweb/ it does wonders on phone/tablet form factors. This design will not easily accomodate slightly larger displays such as tablets very well. This screenshot someone posted points out a lot of CSS problems regarding font size and the navigation layout: http://i.imgur.com/idgEFon.png
I agree. I haven't used anything but this on mobile since the day I found it. The comments links are much easier touch targets, and built in back and forth navigation. 10x easier to read. (Not that I don't appreciate the work the HN guys are doing!)
