I do have sympathy for her, but I absolutely agree that Americans need to recognize that they are doing the same thing to others.

If you don't want to live in a world like that, start petitioning your own government to change standards for foreigners that come to your country. Positive example is the only reasonable way to convince other countries to follow it.
