As we do not possess a clear (or, at least, a generally accepted) definition of what constitutes the "true AI," it seems very likely that we will cross this "even horizon" without realizing it; we may have done it already, for all we know (or, rather, don't know - due to the fact that much of the progress is being done in secrecy).
