I think Moravec's arguments on the same subject "When will computer hardware match the human brain?" are a little less cranky than Kurzweil's and his prediction from 1998 "it is predicted that the required hardware will be available in cheap machines in the 2020s" seems to be panning out. https://jetpress.org/volume1/moravec.htm
