They surly can be used for fingerprinting, but they also can be guarded with requiring user opt in permission, one which maybe clearly informs the user how the API can be abused and warm them to only s allow it if they know what they are doing. Which is fine given that most usage are for more advanced use-cases. (Through some come from the Firefox OS use-case and might be better if not to be implemented as close to all current usage would be abuse, e.g. the proximity API).
