Per TFA:

I mean that every line in the file picker has a small image beside it. It's just that since it's a list view, they are a bit smaller than I'd like (set to line height). I guess increasing line height or font size would help. Nonetheless it's good enough for roughly figuring out what image is what.

I tested both in Pluma and Firefox - this seems normal for MATE file pickers, but I don't know if it was normal in Gnome2 as well and I never noticed.
