most of the internet is overwhelmingly male, and tech-related places even more so.

Uh, if by "most of the internet" you mean Reddit, 4chan, and HN, then sure.
I'm not even sure if I'd call reddit overwhelmingly male. It's 63.8% male.

I would describe a nearly 2:1 ratio as "overwhelming".

Are you stuck in 1999? :-P
I don't think the Internet is overwhelmingly male

What you think and what it is may be two different things
As of 2021, the US, 94% of men use the internet, compared with 93% of women.
As of 2019, in the world, 58.3% of men use the internet, compared with 48.4% of women.

Source (for the former claim)?
Depends on the corners of the internet that you visit. Tiktok, Instagram, and all vapid places like that have many more females than males.
Ah, yes, thing I do not like is vapid, and half the population is also vapid.
"females" is just the cherry on top.
That is a distortion of my entire comment.
There are sites where the user split per sex is around 2:1. The female-dominated ones are generally more vapid than the male-dominated ones. You can check yourself. That is not to say that male-dominated ones are never vapid. To put it in other words, I would say that almost all female-dominated ones are vapid, while "only" the majority of the male-dominated ones are vapid.
