As somebody who works with legacy systems, it might take me a while to understand everything, but I think being able to experiment with different solutions rapidly is incredibly useful and has helped me zero in on the best possible solution considering the constraints. It also helps in understanding how the system works on a deeper level that often isn't possible just by reading code. Sometimes you just have to break things while implementing a possible solution.
