Ignoring that (which we shouldn’t), if the CPU has an IOMMU it can completely isolate the modem from the rest of the system.
(“Completely” here is also ignoring denial of service and side channel attacks, like timing or the sim card.)
on the pinephone, the modem is connected to the application processor via usb and i2s (for audio)
no need for a frequently buggy iommu
