Mavens definitely nicer than Gradle, but when you have to shade Jars it becomes almost impossible to use.

In python you can specify the version. The popular ML libs in Java are actually still broken and have been for years.

I assumed you could specify versions in python. It’s not the first time I’ve run into issues building other people’s python projects, so I hope someone makes it a requirement to specify a version number when adding dependencies.

And I really wish ML and AI was as popular in Java as it is with Python, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon :(

  • Yea definitely, had so many horrible experiences picking up other people's python projects.

Maybe it's my experiences, but I tend to do a good job avoiding dependencies.

ML is resource intensive, doesn't make sense to use JVM based languages.
