If only! Lots of things seem obvious, like common sense, but they apparently aren't because the behavior of many organizations is to reward the firefighters, to push "work harder" over "work smarter", and other behaviors that (in the long term) impede their ability to improve or expand their capabilities.

I liked the quote in the 2015 submission that twic posted [0], it relates back to the "seems obvious" sentiment. A lot of good solutions are simple (or composed of simple elements in a sane and reasonable fashion). But arriving at those solutions is decidedly not simple or obvious if we go by the Rube Goldberg machines that people end up contriving instead.
