I think some people have been traumatized by the bitter lesson and now think it’s a fundamental law of nature or something. But application development isn’t just about technology. It isn’t even primarily about technology. It’s about people. Good applications reflect conscious and purposeful design choices based on understanding of the user’s needs. That is where the value-add is.
The best application developers deeply understand the interface design space, the quirks and limitations of the underlying technology, their users’ mental models, and how to bring all of this into alignment to deliver a worthwhile product. I see no evidence that LLMs are on the precipice of acquiring (much less mastering) these capabilities.
