IMO this is a self inflicted wound that won't ever heal.
There was an article recently about deepseek which is an example of what happens when you limit access to technology. People find more efficient and better ways to do that same on older hardware making it more competitive and lower cost.
I was expecting NVIDIA to donate to the inauguration fund like other companies have been doing, but this is kind of an insane level of corporate endorsement of a political entity.
Especially in the face of the incoming administration being even more anti-China, especially with the tariffs.
It's especially telling that they never explain how "the first Trump Administration laid the foundation for America’s current strength and success in AI". Its clear that there would not have been any mention of the first Trump administration at all had Trump lost the election.
This is a blatant attempt at gaining favor through flattery and creating positive press.
>"The federal government has wisely refrained from dictating the design, marketing and sale of mainstream computers and software — key drivers of innovation and economic growth."
The tech titans have made it crystal clear that they do not consider the people, through their elected representatives, to be legitimate stakeholders in the society they live in, and certainly not in the economy that should be serving them.
Loath as I am to quote Friedrich Nietzsche, I think
"What does not kill me makes me stronger" is apt here. Not sure history will see this as a good idea.
> While cloaked in the guise of an “anti-China” measure, these rules would do nothing to enhance U.S. security.
That's a pretty bold statement for a corporation to make. it's unquestionalble that an army with the best AI will dominate, so it's clear that some restrictions would be necessary. Nvidia did not provide any alternative proposals for restrictions in their statement, so their whole thing comes across as foolish and misguided. Dumb.
I can't seriously take any statement from Nvidia about the greater good while they maintain an artificial moat of CUDA workloads that can work on other hardware but is not permitted.

At the current state of AI, the Army will need only I. /s
