I think the equivalent would be if New York Times is somehow owned by Tencent and given that the Chinese government uses golden shares to control private companies. In that case, I think it's fair game to force NYT to divest or force them to shutdown.

We allow the BBC with British Government involvment. They are more of a democracy but have a royal perogative that says the King can remove the prime minister. Royal perogatives are rarely used, but have been used in the last 100 years. Also Al Jazeera and others are allowed.
