I think it's becoming apparent that any attempt to progressively re-write a large codebase into a new language is always going to fail. Needs to done ground up new.

Which progressive rewrite attempts do you have in mind?
Ummm it’s actually exactly the other way around if the code is alive: incremental is the only possible way to keep up.
