I'm wondering the same thing. Considering they were just acquired, I'm concerned. Especially since as far as I know, they still are operating under a free model.
Yes, however Automattic seems invested in the idea, since they also acquired Texts.com (which I didn't know before). So maybe the "universal chat app" is still part of their plan going forward?
