Given the history of movements like this with such money at stake, I feel like there’s no way the AI industry is not full of just massive amounts of fraud.

Absolutely agree, and that's only compounded by the fact that most AI benchmarks are far from objective or practical. We have no idea where AI is right now or where we really need to go, only that it's gotten better and seemingly continues to improve.
