Just to put numbers to it, Intel was $34 in 2016. It’s $20 now. So a dollar in Intel in 2016 would be worth 59 cents today.
ETA they also paid out almost $10 in dividends.

You are ignoring dividends. They have paid something like ~$9 of dividend per share since 2016.
My mistake. Like $9.86 in dividends.
