Do we think that Bell Labs, if it were to avoid being broken up, would have existed in any way the same way today ?
Cynically, it likely would have ended up a zombie shell of itself, like IBM
Topically, assuming it avoided such a fate and was held in high regard by the industry and employees, this current administration would likely be meddling with every single grant, contract, or project that did not align with the administrations' priorities (see: colleges and research grants)
And Xerox, and IBM went through spits and bumps, IBM Boca Raton, IBM Tully Road. Fairchild. Colombia Physics. The Manhattan project. Princeton. Cornell. Bleachey Park.
