I have been an embedded firmware and software engineer for over thirty years. I started by developing MCU-based edge systems and their Unix-based servers. My current work involves creation of custom Linux distributions for a variety of embedded systems, including board design, bring up, and new driver development.

I have been involved with handheld IoT and backend devops longer than those reductive abbreviations have existed. I have been committed to using open source tools and platforms for the past twenty five years, and I have worked directly to improve that ecosystem (e.g. GNU toolchain, OpenOCD, OpenEmbedded). I strongly prefer to produce open source solutions as well, but I have learned to be practical when it comes to building a business.

I am looking for a fully remote position at the staff through founder level, helping to architect and build a new embedded platform in an interesting vertical. I am interested in working with robotics, drones, 3-D printing, or other kinds of motorized and articulated systems.

Technologies and markets that I will actively avoid include JavaScript/Java/PHP/Ruby, Microsoft products/platforms, off-site clouds, Anything-as-a-Service, fintech/cryptocurrencies, "web3", large/multinational businesses, government agencies, and similar engineering.
