There’s also structure created by trust: in Australia we have the Australian Bureau of Statistics which is a high-trust, apolitical institution. ABS figures can then be quoted to hang an argument off.
There are high trust organizations in the US too. A product being FDA certified is a signal to buyers (in addition of course to being permission to sell to them).. the USGS reports on earthquakes. We don’t have earthquake deniers because if USGS says it happened people either believe or can trace back to underlying facts.
What would it take for social media and other places people get their information to become high trust?
