Personally I definitely feel the stress impacting my abilities during coding interviews. Last time I interviewed I used a few live coding prep tools to prepare and realized that the main value I got was just getting desensitized to the stress of solving a problem in front of someone.

That being said, IMO there is no good replacement. Especially with LLMs being as good as they are you simply cannot trust someone to solve a problem without supervision and rely on the result alone as a signal. Not just because they might cheat, but moreso because the main signal you get from these interviews is watching someone think through the problem and talking through it with them.

These should not be pass/fail tests, there's so much more that goes into a good evaluation.
