Back in the day, you made some website on GeoCities or Angelfire and no one visited your site. Today, you post to Medium or Bear Blog and no one visits your site.

The difference is that back in the day people couldn't find your site, whereas today they don't even look.

Everyone self-censoring on a social media platform (disturbingly common) should have long-ago moved to something self-hosted, but the integrity of the message is less important than its reach. Consumers of these censored feeds should have long-ago moved back to RSS or created an open alternative method of providing independent, algorithmically curated streams.
