I wouldnt want an AI model to hold my military hostage. DOD should have strong requirements when making contracts with AI companies, including having the models be on their own infrastructure, fully locked down with a master prompt they can see and update.
Nobody would have an issue with that. The problem here is DoD insisting on that kind of control, then threatening and retaliating against Anthropic for declining to participate rather than simply walking away and engaging with a competitor.
I get the feeling a lot of people do have an issue with that. Remember when people were freaking out that Google was taking on DoD work?
