For one thing, I would've expected it to actually have intelligence. All we currently have is a stochastic parrot without any intelligence or ability to reason.

Any? How do you want to define intelligence and ability to reason? Yes, LLMs predict the next word, but somewhere during tokenization and training and the billions of parameters, it might be a Chinese room, but there's something resembling a non-zero amount of intelligence. How intelligent do you think crows or pigs are?
