Desktop publishing and websites altered the landscape of publishing.
Podcasts and YouTube altered the landscape of broadcasting.
Power relationships, capabilities, distribution, access—-Naturally there are new outcomes. The major players and their orgs designed to churn out content people will pay for are themselves undermined by one-hit wonders, runaway successes, viral outbreaks of cultural content on platforms they do not control.
A new equilibrium will establish itself. Smart and clever people will see opportunities, have opportunities and make great things which will be evaluated in new ways we can’t yet predict.
But if you have a job in publishing or broadcasting and just bought a house, started a family, well, I’m sorry. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.
