I think distillation is inevitable and pretty hard to prevent but I also dunno why anyone would spend billions to train frontier models if there's enough distillation going on to get near it with much lower spend.

Oh, you mean not commit fraud? Why would any respectable company do that?
This seems odd to say about a group of companies that supposedly built this on scraped data.
Didn't Anthropic say they banned OpenAI for doing it on their models?

Except this is not fraud. And just because a company _really_ wants to make a trillion dollar valuation doesn't mean they get to invent a new type of fraud.
Yes, breaking the terms of use is fraud. And, no, no self-respecting company would do this deliberately.
