I don't understand the question, Sony still sells a product line of both premium and cheaper mp3 player devices?
Although FiiO is probably the company to look at for these kind of products.

Show me the cheaper one please. The lowest price Walkman I can see is 400 bucks for 32gb
That is the decent player you're looking for. (It has an SD card slot.)

Fourth gen ipod was $399 new.

Fiio has been making these for many years at every price point and size. Quality seems very high
They're very well known and have several competitors
