Why not? If they use a machine learning approach. AI is more than LLMs.

Because that's not what people think you're talking about if you just say "AI". It also forms some sort of equivalence between the two, when generative AI is orders of magnitude more problematic.
Using the broader label to imply good things about the narrow thing sucks. Like being pro "technology" means nothing
