Not a good thing. China is an authoritarian regime, which we need to reduce dependency on, not increase it.

Blood money isn't red in color. USA has more war crimes in the past 5 decades than almost all other major countries combined. But that doesn't matter when you're profiting. Same goes here.
I think other nations are not asking themselves which country has the best human rights record. That time has passed. Trump and Putin have pushed the world back to pure power politics. All the middle powers want to be less open to US blackmailing by diversifying. They know China is not their friend, but the US isn't either, and China is more predictable.
We also need to reduce our depency on USA which is currently signaling it is a hostile nation that consider and invasion of Europe in the form of an occupation of Greenland. It is possible USA:a admin is just lying about their hostile intentions but that in itself is a reason to reduce dependence on America
The USA is also currently signalling hostilities towards Brazil. They're hostile to all.
> We also need to reduce our depency on USA
True, but trading the USA for China is not a wise move, if only because China would never ever have stepped up in WW2, and will not provide any support in the future either, except --Buddha willing-- by selling arms.
Is choosing your favorite hegemon going to be based on WWII Hollywood stories?
I’m impressed. I had to scroll down ten top level comments in order to find a contentless but-China-regime comment. Good work HN.
The US is not that different.
China is more authoritarian but the US under republican presidential administrations has been more more militarily aggressive. Every single Republican administration has initiated invasions of other countries and every Democratic administration has at the very least engaged with overseas bombing.
The question is whether this makes folks more or less likely to hold dollars vs yuan as reserve currency
The US is infinitely worse, at least China is predictable.
You don't know the meaning of the words. Ask the Philippines how unpredictable China is in the South China sea.

Yeah, can't say I disagree. I expected Trump to be authoritarian but I thought he'd actually at least try to be smart about it.
