It's great that the OS is open source, it really is. But all bits going out over the cellular radio are handled by proprietary firmware, same as every other phone out there.

Exactly. You get very precise when you want to paint the device as a panacea of liberty, to the point of potentially misleading people.
The rest of the time, not so much.
What about patching security vulnerabilities? Privacy enhancements?
