In a democracy, it is the elected officials, who are meant to represent the voter, that are held accountable. Not the voter.

Tautology but also not relevant. How do you propose the voter be held accountable?
The elected official is held accountable if he doesn't do what the voters want. This one is doing what his voters want, so there's nothing to hold him accountable for.
