I think adversarial compatibility is the way to go.
Move people over slowly as you add new features the old platform doesn't porvide.

People want to be on platforms where their friends already are. Its a hard problem to solve because how do you get their friends to move onto your platform when they're people too and have the same desire?
Well that's the exact premise of adversarial compatibility. You just scrape the platform their friends are on and cross-post.
