It's a lot of the same people that refuse free CDNs.
You don’t even need a cdn. The cheapest vps can handle HN load serving static pages. The problem tends to come when it’s some inefficient dynamic page triggering db calls to load a blog post.
Ever wonder why those CDNs are "free"?
