The big fear in the administration is any attempt to put breaks on the AI progression will lead to a recession and so the history will be written as to win an election (that is almost certain a losing proposition for the party in power), they put the future of humanity at risk.

Well at least at that time, bi-partisan ethos was at a level that such acts would actually lead to an impeachment or forced resignation.
