Where is most of that future power going? Where are those power plants going to be installed? What need does those particular nuclear reactors would fill?
Do not get me wrong: I am not anti-nuclear per-se, but my main concern is that it would have made sense to have a long term strategy including phasing out of nuclear not directly shutting down in the 90's as the Italian did, but progressive phase out with upgrades to existing plants... Now it seems to be going a bit backwards.
Also, to contrast and put in context, in Belgium, Nuclear power plants were build by the state and therefore paid by the tax payers, raising taxes in order to afford them. The underpinning idea was that you pay a bit more and then once paid off you can get cheap energy.
This is not what happened, the power plants got privatised and the gains went to the new operators, leaving tax payers with the bill...
I agree with that, in Italy the telephone lines, highways and trains were privatized the same way, but that's just because politicians are corrupt and they were able to convince people that public companies had to make money like they were private and operating at a loss was bad.
