Change is fine, but it should be invisible. Some years ago, I drove a car that didn't have a turn signal lever. It had some sort of switch on the dash. An old lady asked me to drive her car someplace we were both going after dark - I had been driving it for an hour before I happened to notice. Despite that difference, since the switch was exactly where my fingers expected it, I didn't need to notice it.
Automatic transmissions are objectively better, though I also find it respectable to challenge yourself a little by insisting on driving manual. But they're also change. Electric cars don't even need a transmission at all, that's change. And push-button start, anyone?
My great great grandmother grew up with neither electricity nor cars. It's been nonstop change for the last hundred years, and I don't get to special-plead that change must stop now just because it's when I'm alive.
The changes from the distant past that stuck were better for users while the ones from the recent past that stuck were better for shareholders - that's possibly the only relevant difference.
