You can do both. Or, at least, a lot of us can. It’s not like SOC2 auditing just disappeared suddenly. If you have figured out how to use it effectively, AI is enabling things that were previously impossible for resource constrained teams.
Just like everyone thinks they are a “good” driver, everyone thinks they are a “good” developer. But programmer productivity existed on a bell curve of talent, multiplied by one’s experience, thrown against the rocks of how terrible your legacy code base was, then finally dragged down by the incompetence of some of your terrible coworkers. Most of the code humans were writing was substantially worse than what Astra generates. And Astra is -ballpark- 500 times faster. It’s worth figuring out how to work around some of the sharp edges.
OpenAI had to throttle sales and was able to raise their prices.
Yes, many adjacent tasks have become slightly more difficult. I’m sure people who rode horses missed them when we transitioned to cars. But, if we built an entire physical infrastructure at a national level to make that technology useful, I suspect we can get people to learn enough about software architecture, CI/CD, and QA best practices such that AI built software is actually more reliable than human built software ever was. Some of us are at that point today. Indisputably.
Yes, you have to review the code. But serious developers already had to do that anyway. Now the code comes with annotations (if you build the right tool) and it’s nearly always perfect.
