Given the weight and blessing governments in Europe and America are putting behind passkey roll outs despite the awkward provider lock in, I’m convinced the centralisation of credentials is one of the early steps to making western digital IDs happen and granting convenient access to your credentials for law enforcement. Happy for you to mark my words and call me out if it doesn’t happen.
I think you’re right. They won’t make it mandatory, but passkeys will increase the risk of account loss enough for them to convince a majority of people that using your real ID everywhere is the only way to make sure you’re secure and don’t lose access to your accounts.
Everything and everyone that tries to resist it will be labeled a bad actor.
