same way i approached that book actually. i think i had it on my bookshelf from the used book store at least a couple of years before i got around to reading it, around the same time i got into a 2-3 week niche read of 'people who do things that are pretty weird sorta undercover and screw themselves up psychologically to try to feel what it is like to 'live' like they perceive other people do' (ehrenreich, vincent, griffin, etc.). it fit the sociological alienation motif nicely.

anyway, decent book but aging fast (like goffman's presentation of self in everyday life).

sapiens (by harari) also seems a decent book though i have not gotten around to finishing it (yet).
