It has a steering yoke. F1 cars also have a steering yoke. Are F1 cars not fun and engaging to drive?

It also has steer-by-wire which makes the steering yoke practical as they can tweak the steering ratio to prevent the need to go hand-over-hand. As they did for the Cybertruck.

Steer by wire is fun? How? I think the wheel being directly connected to the road is more fun.

Driving an F1 car is fun in the same way that cycling in the Tour de France is fun. Everything about that experience is purely for function and competition.

I think Louis Hamilton has a lot more fun in his Ferrari F40 than in his F1 car.

  • "Directly" does not describe how modern steering wheels are connected to the road. Steer by wire could be fun or not fun depending on how it is implemented. Of course for this car fun is the priority.

    • Modern steering wheels that are not steer by wire (the vast majority of cars on sale) are directly connected to the wheels, so they are making uninterrupted contact with the road.

You can feel the road because your steering wheel is directly touching the wheels which are directly touching the road. This is true even when the steering is heavily power assisted.

Steer by wire has to engineer that feedback back in artificially, and there’s non-zero input lag.

I don’t think fun is the priority of this car. The priority of this car is to be a marketing vehicle for the brand. Almost nobody will own this car and certainly almost nobody will own the more insane trim levels.

We can’t even trust that this company will ever ship the car since they didn’t ship the last iteration. Read the reservation fine print, it says they might not even make the car.
