I used to own a large ranch in Puna district that had this very crack run through the middle of it. I once crashed a bulldozer into it and got it stuck sideways about 50 ft from the surface.

After dropping a rock below my feet and couting to 10 before I heard the splash I discovered that the crack went all the way to ground water about 1100 ft down. That rock could have been me!
