The V2 as a military weapon was a complete failure (due to inaccurate guidance). It also consumed so much of the Reich's resources that it materially shortened the war.

Ah indeed, a new and unheard of piece of cutting edge engineering that is at the same time a completely useless and extravagant waste of resources? My analogy was more on point than I thought :)
