The second one is an 8-line FDN. While the actual 224 used “circle 8” algorithms instead of FDNs (it was Eventide who started using FDNs for reverberation) one can get amazing reverbs from a FDN, e.g. Valhalla Supermassive is a 16-line FDN where the 16 delay line amounts are the only thing that changes between algorithms. I myself have made a good sounding 4-line FDN reverb, and 8 lines was used in one of FreeVerb’s algorithms.
