it feels like a transition from artisan level work to factory based industrial manufacturing.
the functionally same product is still being made, but there is less human involvement in the craft, and more of a human management over the manufacturing process
And the same thing will happen to devs that happened to factory workers. Jobs will get moved offshore, and salaries will drop, mass layoffs. And SWE's don't have unions like factory workers did.
Maybe it's time for SWE's to unionize.
It's long since past, and it's not like unions would've saved the industry from AI, like Europe has unions too (and their software industry is quite poor compared to the US in general, partially due to higher regulation on companies and workers both).
