"dots" are something that should work over long horizons of time, no? they are powered by Astra and still not good enough. Mercury, though, is all about making the same unit of intelligence a bit cheaper and a lot faster, which is not exactly what an always-on unpredictable non-deterministic text autocomplete needs.
