What steps can someone take to determine if they might have been hit?
So far, I have checked to see if any new files have been placed in our directories or if there have been any file changes. I've also looked at the access logs for unexpected POST requests.
Are there any other steps?
If your application is known to routinely "deserialize" (unsafe-eval) strings from a database or cache, an attacker might have placed a tiny backdoor that way, only to be used after the everyone has applied the PHP patches and attention levels & active staff are back to normal.
