I really enjoy the writing style here.

edit: I mean this seriously. This kind of thing

> Some of my colleagues believe that this is a nefarious Company, whose only goal is profit, if necessary at our community’s expense. Perhaps there is some truth to this, but I think it is missing the larger point. The fact is that there now exists an automated system that can perform mathematical research — at least the part that involves “solving hard problems” — far better than any human. Now that such a system has been demonstrated, it is clear that results like these were bound to start appearing soon anyway. I do not blame the Company for getting there first. Who got there first is an irrelevant detail, a historical footnote.

is very pleasantly honest and well-thought-out.

Oh, such a noble mathematician, he's so above the questions of moral, Truth is all that matters.

Almost as much as a paycheck from the Company.

  • I mean, this gets to the heart of the is mathematics invented or discovered question. It seems like maybe you haven't thought about this before but his point seems to be, if this sort of machinery does exist, it can be discovered. It has now been discovered, it was waiting for us the whole time, who was the first to find it doesn't matter. I'm not sure what you're implying either. Should there be forbidden math? How is that not silly?
