Yeah it's crazy. I wonder if the lesser-educated, under-privileged, working class deplorables feel much schadenfreude about their enlightened betters who just got done with decades belittling and bullying them with "Dey terk er jerbs" and "Just learn to code" getting a bit of the treatment. Interesting times, maybe we should quit whining about AI derkin der jerbs and just learn to mine coal (to power the new datacenters).

Which is exactly what the capitalists that own these systems want. Divide and conquer.

"Pay no attention to the men who are responsible for you situation, instead pointlessly fight amongst yourselves."

  • I’d love it if instead of being the next FAANG, having worked at an AI company becomes a scarlet letter both in and out of the tech industry. It’s easy to concentrate these issues on founders and execs, but Altman isn’t the one building the beast.

Contributing to these systems beyond this point should be seen as a massive failure of character. Stigmatizing to the point that they have to scrub their socials, lie about work history, and hide it from future friends or partners.

One can dream. Society does not have the integrity for this, unfortunately.

    • I don't think integrity is the reason for it. If you don't see it as an irredeemable moral issue for people to have worked at AI companies, then it is not a matter of integrity that you don't shun them.

Or, you might consider it a moral issue but may not believe that shunning is not the way to achieve a positive result. Also not a failure of integrity.

Maybe so, but that advice is for the western left, who openly and boastfully despises the working class these days. They might have thought about that if they wanted any "working class solidarity". It's been a staggering achievement either incompetence or coordinated malice that they could flip the balance of blue collar voters to right-wing parties in a generation. They chose who they wanted to lie with.
