Another mindless comment grouping all Europeans into the same bucket. Europe has incredibly poor countries where developers are paid pitance (within Europe) and then developed countries paying high salaries (relative to the cost of living).

If you are a software engineer doing a relatively good job, it really doesn't matter which country you live in Europe - you will have a comfortable life. That said, of course if you take a Romanian sweng salary and try and live in Switzerland off that - you might live a little less comfortably. Similarly if you take a Swiss sweng salary and live in Romania - you will live extremely comfortably.

Are Chinese paying competitive wages that there is chip fabrication, car manufacturing, AI models and what not?

Its just that West has been a unified block and no other reason.

Put harsh sanctions on US products and services, few difficult years later there would be a copy of everything US but made in Europe.

But that's a stupid thing to do. West as unified block is the best outcome for everyone but fascist won't understand that.

  • Oh they understand it. They just can’t pass up the opportunity to make massive amounts of money and increase their power by fragmenting western society

You seem to be implying that innovation never happens in Europe? Is that correct?

  • No one claimed that innovation never happens in Europe. But there are reasons why Europe lags the USA in the pace of innovation, and is falling even further behind. Low wages for technologists is one reason. Other reasons include immature capital markets, excessive regulation (on things that don't even protect consumers or the environment), punitive bankruptcy laws, weak tertiary education systems, and risk-averse cultures. Some of those things they could fix very quickly if they wanted to adopt a growth agenda and stop being poor.

    • "Stop being poor" is laughable, as somebody who's walked the streets of the Tenderloin before.

Sure, there's poverty in Europe, and sure the GDP per capita is lower. But poverty and absolute precarity like it exists in every major US city is unheard of here.

Ironically, part of the culprit for creating these absolutely destitute inhumane conditions is said "growth agenda".
